As a key contractor to the Australian Federal and NSW governments, Parklife Metro is leading a transformative metro project connecting St Marys to Bradfield, linking with the new Western Sydney Airport. The Parklife Metro (PLM) consortium - made up of Plenary, RATP Dev, Siemens, and Webuild - is delivering the Stations, Systems, Trains and Operations & Maintenance (SSTOM) package of works for the Sydney Metro-Western Sydney Airport (SM-WSA) project.
RDWSA will proudly operate and maintain six new stations, 12 metro trains, core rail systems, and a state-of-the-art stabling and maintenance facility at Orchard Hills on the Western Sydney Airport metro line for 15 years after the line becomes operational.
About the Role:
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Commercial Director partners closely with the MD to define and drive the overall commercial strategy. Within the context of a complex, multi-billion-dollar Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the role ensures full commercial stewardship of the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) scope, including robust contract management and governance.
The Commercial Director also acts as the primary commercial interface with key stakeholders, ensuring alignment, consistency and protection of the company’s interests across all parties. In addition, the role provides strategic and operational support to project delivery teams, bringing expertise in procurement, contract structuring (including Contract Notice), and legal matters to strengthen decision-making, mitigate risks, and secure project outcomes.
Leading a high-performing team of commercial, procurement and legal specialists, the Commercial Director is accountable for driving disciplined commercial governance, supporting delivery performance, and safeguarding value across the lifecycle of the project.
In this role you will be required to:
Commercial Strategy & Positioning
- Define and implement the commercial strategy, ensuring alignment between contractual positions, delivery constraints and program evolution in a complex PPP environment
- Support project leadership in shaping and defending the Company’s position towards key stakeholders (D&C Contractor, OpCo, Client, Independent Certifier)
Contract & Commercial Risk Management
- Lead the identification, assessment and management of commercial and contractual risks across the project lifecycle
- Anticipate risks arising from interface issues, program uncertainty and asset readiness, and ensure proactive positioning rather than reactive claims
- Ensure procurement strategies and commitments are aligned with contractual obligations, project risks and delivery priorities
Modifications, Claims & Contractual Levers
- Define the strategy for contract modifications, claims, and dispute in line with project priorities
- Oversee the management of claims, variations as strategic tools to support project objectives
- Ensure prioritisation and consistency in the treatment of defects, handover conditions
Commercial Integration with Delivery
- Act as the central integrator between commercial and technical teams, ensuring alignment between contractual requirements and project execution
- Work closely with asset management, service delivery O&M Readiness and HSEQ teams to translate technical issues into commercial implications and decisions
Team Leadership, Governance & Performance
- Stabilise and develop the commercial team by setting clear priorities, responsibilities and focus on key project risks and outcomes
- Contribute to project governance forums and support SLT decision-making through clear, structured commercial input.

You are a strategic and commercially astute executive leader with a proven track record of navigating high-stakes commercial agreements within the transport, heavy infrastructure, or major projects sector. A collaborative and consultative partner by nature, you excel under pressure, balancing high-level strategic vision with an unwavering eye for contractual and financial detail. You are an exceptional communicator and trusted advisor, adept at leading and aligning diverse, multi-disciplinary teams and partnerships with sophisticated government clients and consortium partners. Bringing a mature, highly resilient, and adaptive approach, you thrive in complex, ambiguous environments, transforming operational challenges into robust, commercially viable solutions.
You will bring:
- 10+ years of commercial leadership experience in a Commercial Director or equivalent executive role on major, complex infrastructure or transport projects.
- Extensive, hands-on experience establishing, administering, and navigating high-value Public-Private Partnership (PPP) contracts and commercial frameworks.
- Deep, practical knowledge of operating within an O&M or transport services environment, understanding the long-term lifecycle risks and operational realities.
- A stellar track record of managing, negotiating, and resolving complex modification deals, variations, and major claims while maintaining strong partner alignment.
- Proven capability to mentor, elevate, and drive high performance across integrated teams
- Outstanding capacity to influence, consult, and negotiate with high-profile external stakeholders, including government delivery agencies (such as Sydney Metro), joint venture partners, and major subcontractors.
- Demonstrated capacity to navigate highly complex, fluid project phases (including the transition from delivery to operations) with a solutions-focused and composed approach.
- A tertiary degree in Law, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
